Will the economy crater?
Will the economy crater? A new worry is trashing the markets. Will the GOP Senate allow the $600 weekly additional unemployment checks stop at the end of July? The House passed the continuation plan two months ago. The Senate has done nothing. The House will not give employers blanket Covid 19 immunity. Nor will the House agree more tax cuts. The money for the unemployed is a big deal now. The GOP will get the Herbert Hoover treatment and deservedly so if the checks stop and a Depression begins. Biden is now going to get the FDR treatment and the electoral landslide if the GOP keeps repeating the mistakes of 1932. We will see if the GOP knows anything about U.S. history. |

Hoover was a smart engineer, and compassionate. Just in love with capitalism and free markets. Trump is just ignorant and inept. Moscow Mitch is playing with fire. He could tank the U.S. economy.

I read an article in the Guardian recently which recorded several recent polls in the US suggesting that Biden will win by a landslide and that it will take decades for the Reps to recover. It was mainly factual but with some opinion, so I took it with a pinch of salt. The signs are nevertheless good that trump will not get a second term. It's just such a shame that the self-seeking Reps are causing so much damage to so many (not least covid 19 deaths) in their own self seeking interest. I hope they never recover from it and that your country gets beyond its flawed two party electoral college system. I've never understood why proportional representation isn't adopted, our UK gov is seriously skewed without it.

People wanted a change of pace and did not like Hilary. Plus some don't trust a woman as president in the U.S. Now they know Trump is an idiot. He has provided no useful leadership dealing with Covid 19. He is toast.

FDR in 1936 was more loved and admired than God! He lost some prestige over the court packing idea, but still that shook up the Supreme Court enough to uphold some progressive ideas like Social Security and the right to unions.
