I am not a religious person. In fact I would consider myself an atheist, except I am willing to be convinced otherwise if God or the Devil are interested in appearing to me...

But I have had to read the Bible recently in connection with these asylum cases based on religious persecution. My conclusion is that virtually no one is a true Christian.

I define a real Christian as one who practices and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ as set forth in the New Testament. How many people actually do that?

In case you haven't lately read the Bible, those teachings are very demanding. For example, if someone strikes you on the left cheek, you are to turn the right cheek so he can strike you there as well. If someone steals one cloak from you, you are to give him four more cloaks! Who behaves in that fashion?

Jesus also said that no one should judge or punish another, as the adultress who was about to be stoned to death was allowed to go free. If he who was without sin was the only one to judge or punish, no one would be able to serve on a jury or be a judge.

Jesus also said the righteous rich man should give away all his possessions to the poor and go about begging as the world would end soon... Who would want to follow this teaching?

If everyone toiled not and just begged, who would produce food and water and clothes for the populace?
