CDW. American Road trip 2

As many of you read on an earlier post I was talking about the road trip to Alaska through Canada when I was 8 when we left Alaska the first time. My father spent about another 10 years trying to move back up here and finally got things situated that we could. Just so happens the summer before my senior year in high school. So in July of 91 we packed our traveling circus up and off we headed first to Il. because my grandparents had passed earlier that week so it put everything into high drive. My older brother and I had loaded up a trailer and his Chevy s-10 and headed through what we thought would be an uneventful trip, yeah right an 18 yo and a 21 year old in the middle of the summer with an overloaded trailer in a small truck with vinyl bench seats and not carpet. We should have known how things would go when in the middle of the night a soda sitting on the floor boards exploded soaking us and scaring the bejesus out of us. after that the trip was pretty mundane will we hit sascatchawan and some how our little convoy got seperated.

By the way for my Canadian friends Saskatoon Saskatchawan? Really and I thought Alaskan names were weird who came up with that one?

So after trying to find My folks for a short bit we gave up and decided to continue on. After all we at least knew where we were headed. We entered Jasper national park in Canada on a cold rainy thunderstorm of a night. Now keep in mind its pitch black raining and the thunder and lighting are flying, and its fall so the leaves were gone. Think something out of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale. We finally ran out of energy and pulled into a rest area to get some sleep, and parked next to a sign outside my truck window that said "Don't feed the bears" I mean really I gotta pee and that signs there jeez talk about a shy bladder. I am wide awake while my brother sleeps behind the wheel I watch as a few cars and trucks fly by in the dead of the night when all of a sudden my parents suburban zipped by, I had barely gotten the words out Fuck there go Mom and Dad when my brother bolted upright and jammed the truck into gear to persue them. And finally caught up with them cause Mom had caught sight of us as well. They had pulled over and me and my brother got out of the truck with my Father yelling that our dumbasses needed to go give our Mom a hug. Mother called us a few choice names as well, but hugged us hard. I have to say my road trips in Canada are anything but boring. I need to do another one and see what happens this time.

LOL Listening about family road trips is always entertaining like this. A Brothers Grimm fairy tale would be a good analogy for a stormy dark drive into Jasper

I am a celebration of willful chaos and a hugger.

I think they are still out there sadly everyone rushes to get to their destination these days and forget about the little adventures along the way that can make life so much more fun and for great memories and storys when you get older.
