Hazy shade of winter

Time time time... see what's become of me...

OF course, it depends on your original exposure. Did you hear the original song, or a cover? I first hear the Bengals do their rockin' cover. Although there remains a soft spot in my heart for Simon & Garfunkel's original.

There is so much music, so much art, books, stories, pictures, (combinations- comics, graphic novels), etc... that we will never be able to take it all in. Although it makes zero sense to digest a work only once, never to return. I suppose you could try this in a vain attempt to experience as much of the work of the timeless creations of humanity as possible.

I, however, find myself returning to the same song, book, cartoon! (Bob's Burgers), or concept, again and again.

There are songs I listen to which I know by heart, having heard them at least sixteen thousand seven hundred twenty five times. I counted, and if I only hear a song sixteen thousand seven hundred twenty four times, I don't have all the parts down yet. Guitars, bass, drums, vocals, the mains. I don't have special instruments like xylophones or chimes... yet...

It is the rich combinations which draw me in. The timbres of the instruments, the style of rhythm and melody, and then... the lyrics and vocals. I have spent years listening to a song only to look up the lyrics and learn I was completely off. It is a strange mechanism in the brain that allows us to hear the words clearly, if we already know what they will be.

Blind Guardian - a band, is one of my favorites. Very power metal, and at times operatic. Think heavy metal Queen. They have A Night At The Opera as well, the album title a definite tribute. Hansi Kursch (sp?) is one of my most favorite voices. He did a side project with Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer; Demons & Wizards. Excellent bands, all in this paragraph.

UHH, back to the lyrics. I got sidetracked with Blind Guardian because of his vocal style. The range is from guttural screaming falsetto, to beautifully controlled and booming projection. NOT quite as screamy as Iced Earth, which I hated at first, but grew on me after awhile. I could figure out a lot of BG's lyrics, but after reading them... !!! It makes so much more sense than my attempts to decipher.

There's also a good number of metal band songs which become every so clear when you actually sit down and read the book of Revelations. I was encouraged by a one year, so I did, and I am glad I did. I will have to go back and re-read, too.

So, it's time. See what's become of me? Rambles to shambles.

The song so well captures the essence of human struggle in our current existence, if not reaching further back?

Humans are complex. I have had a healthy number of love interests over the years which never materialized. Mostly my fault, as I was so hard to please. Although the possibilities were there, I was a stupid idjit.

I turn 30 this year. That is no longer a by any means, yet I'd say most folks on this forum would regard me as a ''. That's OK, and it's all relative. The best 'adults' retain their inner . While it is a hazy shade of winter for my love life, spring is around the corner.

Literally and figuratively, I will be changing scenery with the seasons this year. Although Summer. The springtime of my life will most likely last the next ten to twenty years. Assuming the rains are good....

Although when you look around, the leaves are brown, and the sky is that hazy shade of winter...

Don't sweat it. Put one foot in front of the other, and the pants on one leg at a time like everyone else*.
