People Matter

Desire. Let’s try it again, shall we? … Desire… Desire… DESIRE. We all desire; our bodies hunger for desire, our minds for our bodies to be the objects of hunger. Why not indeed? – it’s just sex after all – the physical melding of two bodies, maybe three or four if that is what you desire – the stroking of the right nerves in the right order. A little ego stroking never hurts either.

No, that’s not a calculating move. They say that we like our friends, in part, because of who we are when we’re with them.

As I begin to answer the question “what do I want”, I sometimes sneak off late at night to write at a local greasy spoon, finding myself, after hours of solitude, oddly grateful for the human contact of waitresses. They tend to be kind, solicitously bringing mug after mug of coffee. And it strikes me that being here (on Senior Sizzle) requires the same sort of appreciation for humanity that one must have to work third shift. Like the wonderful coffee mavens, whose sleeplessness matches the abandoned defenses compassionately observe in their regulars; here too is the chance to see life in its myriad guises.

People are who they are at 3 a.m. In a chat room or a swingers website, where boys and girls go to play from the anonymity of their own homes, the loftiest visions of themselves are also bared to virtual people. Sometimes not their loftiest visions, sometimes what you get are the basest thoughts and desires they can never bring into their own homes and their real lives. “Do you want to be naughty? Share with us your fantasy. Do you like to be touched, like this?

People are people and we all want more or less the same things - understanding, acceptance, and belonging. Granted, folks have very different
ways of going about getting these things. But I find reassurance in knowing that we're all pretty darned human - we have fears and prejudices and scars and moments of undeniable beauty. Everyone's a little lost sometimes (there is a power in that). Everyone seeks the chance to be great, if only for a moment.

I’m amazed and humbled (and sometimes a bit cynical) by other folks’ willingness to help me understand my desires, their patience as I fumble my way through discovering what I want and need; the situation that will work for me. I don’t know where this journey will lead, what choices and actions I’ll eventually choose to take. And yes, the choice to act is my responsibility – I can only hope to make it with eyes wide open.

The trade-off, in the interim, is that I am willing to provide the same in return. I can’t promise the great, so-far-elusive, sexual experiences of our dreams, or even a return to innocence. I’m still pondering what I want and what kind of situation or person could best suit those desires – and it does, for me, come down to the ability to connect on several levels.

I can promise to make my best attempt to offer understanding and a healthy appreciation for the fact that we are all sexual creatures, seeking intimacy in our own way. I have wonderful friends in my day-to-day life, folks I’d trust with anything. But this isn’t a journey they are sharing with me (other than occasional fits of laughter and philosophizing in a swanky bar). So I don’t find it unreasonable to also hope to make a few friends here (friends for a season or friends for a lifetime) with whom to navigate the slippery slope that it is the libertine lifestyle.

What this may boil down to is a simple motto: “You don't have to approve of the choices, but you have to respect the journey.” It’s never just sex.

interesting writing style..I think I like it.

To get people to come visit your blog, visit theirs. See what they write. Find the ones that discuss the topics that interest you (and there are a WIDE range of topics), and follow them for a while. See who responds to their posts regularly, and read their blogs.

Respond to their posts. They'll start coming to your blog and reading you.

And while I sense you will post for YOU, I know you'll also want others to read it.

Ok...you should respond to my posting here. Tell me "thanks for stopping by"..."nice to see you"..."fuck off"...something.

Also, when you stop by someone's blog...say hi. Say something...

"nice style", "you make good points", "i love reading what you wrote", "i HATE reading what you wrote"...something.

IF you're going to blog...then do that. If you're not...then don't bother writing more...just read.

You write to free your soul. You probably also write to be read. Help yourself.

Bob

While I appreciate the advice, I tend to respond to things in my own time.

Thanks Bob, a gentle nudge is always appreciated. But, I like to respond to a blog post when I have something specific to say.

I've blogged for almost eight years now and work in social media. In the 'real world', I do it for me. On here, I haven't decided yet.
