Beyond The Luck of The Irish

this day which is associated with the 'Luck of the Irish', leprechauns, pots of gold and shamrocks, I thought it would be fun t.o look at other signs and symbols of luck. I am sure my Irish ancestors will not be offended.

Feng Shui

Feng Shui is a complex system how t.o direct the flow of energy in your home so that it moves freely and organically. One of the basic principles is the representation of the five Chinese elements in the home: wood, water, metal, earth and fire.

Elephant Symbols

Both Buddhist and Hindu belief systems revere the elephant as godly. The elephant represents many things, from maternity and fertility t.o luck and wisdom. An elephant symbol with its trunk in an upright position is thought t.o bring good luck.

Incense

Many people burn incense t.o achieve a sense of relaxation, but some believe it can rid the home of negative energy. Incense is supposed t.o cleanse all types of negativity. My favourite is sandalwood.

Horseshoes

Horseshoe-shaped morsels are in your morning bowl of Lucky Charms cereal, but why are they considered lucky? Historians trace the tradition back t.o Irish legends and tales. Placing an iron horseshoe above one’s front door is a classic way t.o protect the home.

Turtle Symbols

Just as the Irish believe placing a horseshoe above the front door will provide protection, feng shui followers believe that the turtle (or tortoise) can guard the home and is one of feng shui’s four celestial guardians. Whether the turtle shell is real or just a piece of art, it is supposed t.o be a great protective and supportive charm over the front and back doors.

Bamboo

Chinese superstition declares a bamboo plant t.o be an integral part of the home. The number of stalks the plant has gives it different meanings. Never give someone a plant with four stalks, for example, because the four in Chinese numerology is related t.o death and misfortune.

The Colour Red

The colour red appears in several cultures in connection with good fortune. The Chinese bring in the New Year with traditional red outfits and red envelopes containing $ . In India, many brides wear the colour red on their wedding day as a symbol of purity and prosperity.

Hamsa

The Hamsa hand is a symbol important t.o Islamic and Jewish history, culture and religion. It is meant t.o be a kind of protective amulet, and many people wear the Hamsa today as jewelry. Some believe it is a way t.o protect against the Evil Eye.

Pig Symbols

Pigs are symbols of good fortune for a historical reason, not a religious one: In Europe in the Middle Ages, a person had t.o be wealthy t.o own and maintain many pigs.

Acorns
Whether you keep some acorns in a bowl as decoration or place a couple on the windowsill in accordance with Nordic tradition is up t.o you. The reason acorns are considered symbols of protection and power is because cultures have revered the massive and enduring oak tree from which they fall.

Do you believe in luck? Do you have any lucky charms or symbols that you keep?

Feng Shui isn't really my bag, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a popular trend these days. As for the Irish, although I might not decorate my apartment with leprechauns and celtic crosses, my bar wouldn't be complete without bailey's cream, guinness, and several liquors from the emerald isle.

Luck is possible, but outside my control. I try to do things so good luck is more likely to be on my side.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

These are all great items that are supposed to bring us luck. I love incense too and my favorite is Jasmine, I can't wait to get into a place where I can once again light it up all around. I hope you have had a lucky day today, and enjoy your evening..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

A well-stocked bar would be appreciated many and not just the Irish

I have tried different types of incense: cones, sticks and liquid. The liquid was the easiest because it doesn't leave ashes all over the place. I hope you soon will get your housing sorted out

Hmmm that was a very informative posting, I learned so much from it culturally.

I also enjoy the scent of sandalwood and have had incense of that in sticks and cones burning in the house in the past but have not in a while as I have some Japanese Cherry Blossom currently that I am liking.

I may have to go and find a horseshoe though and add that to my front door just to be sure I my home is protected.

THANK YOU again for a great posting!

Have a wonderful St. Patties Day!

Cherry Blossoms 🌸 are beautiful. I was in Washington, DC one year just before the festival.
I enjoy doing ‘different’ posts especially when those who drop by learn something new. Good luck finding a lucky horseshoe!

After reading this post I have come to the realization that I'm aware more of bad luck symbols than good luck symbols.

I would focus too much on the negative and forgot to think of the positive.

It's strange, I don't believe in good luck, but I would avoid things that are considered bad luck.

However, with all things considered, I genuinely feel that I have been lucky in life.

I have never been a collector of good luck charms. Always felt things happen for a reason even though we may not know why and the outcomes can vary. Glad to hear your life has been somewhat ‘charmed’. I hope it continues for you 😊.

Hmmm..OK....still sounds like strategies that are personal and not for sharing. That is alright, whatever works best for you is what matters most
