Ode to Older People
Ode to Older People Older people are easy spot at sporting events. During the playing of the National Anthem, they remove their caps, stand proudly at attention and sing loudly without embarrassment. They know the words and believe them. Older people remember the Great Depression, World War II, Pearl Harbour, Normandy and ration stamps. If you bump into an older person on the sidewalk, they will apologize first. If you pass an older person on the street, a man will tip his hat in greeting a lady and will say, "Ladies first". Older people will hold the door open for others to enter first and wait till everyone else has passed through. Older people get embarrassed when others curse in front of women and and dislike that language used on television or in movies. Older people are proud to state their age and make sure they receive their 'senior discounts'. Older people dress for comfort and don't worry about fashion trends. Older people seldom brag unless it's about their or grandchildren. Older people should be valued, appreciated and taken care of whenever they need a hand. |

As I like to tell those young "kids" that are looking for mature women ... Just because I'm old doesn't mean I'm mature! [i/Vive la second childhood. Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

Old age and treachery will always beat youth and exuberance. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. You raise some valid points. Recently, I was pleasantly surprised when out walking my dog and an 'older' gentleman tipped his hat and said, 'Ladies first' to let us pass. That put a smile on my face for the rest of the day

Age has some benefits, most people will mellow a bit and have more respect for the world they live in, not all of course!

I find that a lot of people are surprised when I hold the door open for them. I do find it annoying when the few don't have the common decency to say thank you. My response to that is always a loud "you're welcome"! Stay safe sexyldy!

Great Blog as usual One line may have to be updated some time because I am old, but not old enough to have remembered these the Great Depression, World War II, Pearl Harbour, Normandy and ration stamps. I do remember when you picked up the telephone handset the operator would ask you what number you were trying to reach, or give you the time and/or the weather if you asked; I remember my great grandmother telling me about taking water to the Confederate troops encamped on the street in front of her house during the Battle of Antietam and so many more memories of my childhood. And I wouldn't want to give them up for anything. I was chatting with a friend on here about young pups and old dogs and I opined that (1) you can teach an old dog new tricks, and, (2) some of us have actually experimented with some of those new tricks. To which she responded "And as to having new tricks...I will choose an old dog any time - More patience and more experience" - So, yes, I am proud to be an old dog

What hit me hard recently was speaking to my Mother’s last and youngest remaining sibling who is not giving up but has had enough.
