The sad state of statistics
The sad state of statistics I made a casual observation one night while looking at several lovely ladies kind enough to broadcast their webcams openly. In the sexual preferences area of their mini-profiles, the split for three distinct groups were an even 33%. Those groups were women seeking men, women seeking women, and women seeking all sorts of things. Regretfully, when I see anything beyond woman seeking man, my pessimism alarm sounds and I assume they want nothing to do with me. Call me old fashioned, but how else would I interpret that? Hypothetical bi female: "Well gosh Typer, I've had male and it was kinda meh. I'm expanding my horizons." Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm gonna almost always assume that once you've had meh, you're not about to sign back on for another course if a different flavor comes along. And that had me worried. Because if all of the lesbians and all of the women who might be interested in more than meh joined forces, it would mean that 66 percent of the few women who actually come here aren't seeking out actual men. Worse still, men outnumber all women - straight, bi, indifferent, uncertain or whatever - by a count of something like 20 to 1. Worst case scenario? For every one guy, there's .0165 women waiting for him here. And it feels like that most of the time. I suppose if I wanted to take a positive spin on this, I could say that my sample size was really small (one group of women on one night), so there's a chance my tiny percentage of one female might be slightly higher, but my instincts tell me my assumptions are probably pretty close to correct. Also, while I have the free time, I could think of ways to make use of my .0165th of a lady part. As is the case with all odds, the more you try the greater your chance probabiliy will come around to you. I hope all guys continue to be as optimistic as they were on day one when they decided to sign on and enjoy what this site offers. |

Hi Typer... Since I'm still a woman seeking men only, the stats you came up with rock! being here is like being in Alaska, maybe even better statistically, however, because the odds favor me, i've probably set my criteria and bar a little higher, so my probability is most likely much lower. But, i had one more thought... if i look at women that are still on the fence and would take a man or woman, and given that the number one fantasy for a man is 2 women, i might really have even less of a chance. I'm afraid it might not be good for either of us Lyndsey

I'm afraid it might not be good for either of us Lyndsey I suppose I'd take solace in knowing that only 33% of the women I looked at were actually on the fence. Even if all of those women were available for threeways (which I trust would be fantastic for society as a whole) the remaining 66% are set and your worst case scenario remains 33% of all available men. That number increases, naturally, because some men have no trouble courting more than one woman without informing the parties involved. It's actually impossible to extrapolate your potential success rate because of this, but I'd assume it's pretty close to 100%. Also remember that your success in generating a lasting online relationship (or with some people, any relationship) shifts with your willingness to engage in casual sexual activity, with or without rational thoughts related to its impact on the people involved. My analysis of this situation, however, suggests that this isn't affected by the women on the fence. Unless, that is, women on the fence suddenly gave out casual sex in recordable numbers. I'm not holding my breath for that, though. Objectively speaking, if you know any women on the fence and don't care about your probability for success here, feel free to suggest they give out casual sex. If nothing else, it might bring up the odds for the rest of us males on here.

I wonder what that means.

It's worth pointing out that the magazine community was very encouraging regarding the pursuit of bi- and bi-curious women. The best sentiment I gleamed from their input came from a swinger, who basically stated most bi women still prefer males and the best course of action remains to politely ask about their interests. For what it's worth, some there also agreed that generally speaking, men are screwed here because, mostly, they can't get screwed elsewhere. I already knew that, though.

Not that your post specifically dealt with my post, but I edited the original because an important are was supposed to read aren't. So that's fixed. None of the statistics were harmed in the edit. I found it interesting that none of the quotes you provided seemed to put a positive spin on statistics, but some of that may have simply been my interpretation of the sentiments. I wonder what that means. Secondly, my cynicism probably stems from the knowledge that even I can contort statistics to build a case. "Don't count the days, make the days count"
