How to Photograph A Woman Summary

When you photograph a woman, or when you photograph yourself, here's some things to keep in mind.

Keep the background as simple as possible. Pick up the dirty clothes, close the closet door, be aware of the background.

If it's a selfie in the bathroom mirror, move all that stuff in front of the mirror. It's not background but it is distracting.

Be sure the subject is in focus. All the cameras and phones should focus automatically, but sometimes they focus on something besides the main subject. Shoot it again if it's not in focus.

Sometimes it helps to put more light on the subject. If the photo is dark and murky it may not show what you want it to.

Try to fill the picture with the subject. You want a picture of the subject and not the whole bedroom/bathroom/etc.

This photo is pretty good, but it would have been better without the clutter in the background. Even so, it still works because she pretty well fills the picture!

Finally, have fun with it. If you do, it will show in your pictures and they will be great!

I'd add, from long experience of photo shooting the female body:

* Try to capture the unique beauty of the subject. They're all different.
* Part-body shots can be wonderful: hip curve, stockinged legs, breast(s), neck etc.
* Take lots of shots. If I take say 100 in a shoot, I aim to get 10% of shots to work on.
* I rarely do more than crop a shot & enhance skin tone slightly.
* Establish rapport with the subject. She needs to feel relaxed in your company. Make her feel good about having her body in a shoot.

Enjoy your shoots! I do 2-3 a week of my lovely wife. You can if you wish sample my shots at adultism.com by searching oldergent371 & johnb747b

I use Photoshop Elements but rarely explore its many features.

That's exactly what I mean! One sees the lady because her presence is so strong.

Indeed! The infinite variety of women is a major part of their charm. Each person has something unique and beautiful. That's what I want to photograph.

I, too, have Photoshop. It is a part of the photography environment these days, but, like you, I don't do much with it.
. You
Thank you for sharing your photos. They are very nice. You do indeed have a lovely wife!
