Anticipation !!!

Looking forward to a nice pleasant day today, but tomorrow we are told will be
another story, cooler and rainy from the cold front moving from Texas, Missouri and Tennessee into our area.
Hope it gets out of our area this week and Thanksgiving is nice. Our family are gathering for a huge pot luck Thanksgiving Dinner in a relative's 'party barn' and last count we have 3 Marine families to attend from Camp Lejeune and share our meal
and thanks.
A number of communities, subdivisions and families for several years now invite
groups or families from the local Military base to join them. One HOA in an exclusive development invite them over for 3 meals one day and spend the nite in the club house on their golf course so they are not traveling back at night to the base.

It should be a joyful time of Thanksgiving, sharing fellowship, meals and a special means of thanking them for their service to our Country.

Do any other areas in other States do similar for military personnel at these Special Holidays to make them welcome if they are unable to go home to be with their own families for these special occasions?

We used to do that for the local Coast Guard base in the Washington, DC area. Thank you for doing your part. I'm sure they appreciate it!
and a big thank you for sharing in the past when in Washington DC. A great gesture , especially for those who or whatever reason are not able to go home to be with their own families. Gives us regular citizens an opportunity to say
"Thank you and your families for your service and sacrifices while you serve"

Have a great Thanksgiving, enjoy with family and friends. js

Well, personally, can't take credit for all the doings for the military family, but my extended family thought it would be great to do something for those not able to bear the expense of going to be with their families in other states. And our family has a newly inducted family member who has just completed basic training in S.C. who will be here.

We go over to the military town new the Marine/Naval base to eat quite frequently at one of the many nice restrauants, and we get a chance to talk with the people and inquire who has family coming or if they are going home.

Talk later possibly between all the family members coming in. There are more than 20 coming from the Florida area to spend 5+ days here. All relatives had to scramble to find a place for them to bunk, but family here have come through including some from other N.C. towns and Virginia, Nebraska, Alabama,
you name it.
