This guy is dumb. Should I give him a chance?

So I had a phone conversation with guy from Okcupid. Before we had decided to talk on the phone he asked me a few times if I would be his girlfriend. I thought it was weird that he was asking since we never even met in person but I told him yes the second time, not knowing if it would really work out.

Our conversation went pretty well but when he asked me about my ethnic background, omg I thought this guy was joking? Here is how the conversation went:

Me: Well, my dad is Lebanese and my mom is Filipino.

Him: What's Lebanon?

Me: It's next to Israel and Syria.

Him: Isn't that where all the deserts are?

Me: The surrounding countries are like that but Lebanon has forests and mountains.

Him: Philippines.....I had a teacher from there. Where is that? South America?

Me: It's in Asia.

Him: Which part?

Me: East. It's an island like Japan, but it has so many islands.

I was really turned off after talking about this. The Philippines in South America? This guy is 25 years old!!! I mean I don't care that he thinks there are deserts in Lebanon but he never even heard of the country. I guess he never heard of the war with Israel in 2006? Probably never watches world news.

We continued to have a normal conversation for five more minutes and then I mentioned I was tired. I was really looking forward to going on dates with this guy but now I don't think I should meet him. But he said I am his girlfriend already? He isn't bad looking too. I wonder if I am being too harsh and should give him a chance?

Holy fuck, did he ever get past 6th grade?!!

And what the hell were you thinking when you uttered yes, to being his gf . You don't do that, not ever before meeting someone especially. Besides him being stupid, he is also needy, so probably clingy and possessive.

But he said I am his girlfriend already? .... No he fucking didn't!! He asked, and you said you would be. So you said , ".. but I told him yes the second time".

In general, you need to seriously wise up before you get into major trouble.

Some cultural differences happening here. Anyone who instantly asks you to be his girlfriend has no clue.

You can do better than that, don't settle. And the fact that this guy is calling you his girlfriend and you haven't even met him yet is a bad sign. He doesn't sound mature enough to understand what that even means, like he's still a sophomore in high school and is trying to figure out if you are going to commit to him or not. I would worry if this guy was the kind of chap to get really possessive and if you could even do a simple first-meet (like an hour or so at a local coffee shop) without him becoming too attached, or at least reading too much into the date. Him not knowing basic geography should be an easy final nail in that coffin. If he is the kind of guy who doesn't want to think too much about geography and put any effort into knowing basic facts, then his quick push for the 'Girlfriend" label could be seen as another facet where he may not want to try very hard to understand building relationships.

I have met people that admitted they had no ideal what a Filipino was until they joined the military, Certain world events are not relevant to people and they are just absorbed into their own worlds. But the asking of being his girlfriend after no one on one contact unless its due to extreme distance is pushing it including the fact it sounds like you have only been talking to him for awhile. You would not be in the wrong to end this one before it gets to deep for him.
