King of the Blues

Guitar Center is sponsoring a blue guitar competition this month so I thought it would be fun to enter and see who else in my area is a guitar playin' blue fan like myself. Now my hands are aching from playing my guitar the past two weeks 4 hours a day.!!!
I have definitely learned a few riffs over the past 19 years of playing, so it will be nice to show what I can do. I just hope I don't freeze up!
Anybody else out there like the blues (and I don't mean Clapton! Sorry, Slowhand fans, he's not exactly my favorite person!)? Who are your favorites and why?

I've always liked John Lee , all the Chicago greats like Muddy and Wolf, some Robert Johnson, huge fan of Stevie Ray, Albert King, Etta James, and Gary Moore's blues albums I wore out jamming along with.

If you had a cool blues name like Little Walter, Sonny Boy, or Howlin' Wolf, what would it be and why?

If you have any suggestions for mine, feel free!

KILL YOUR TELEVISION!!!

I love the blues...and all of the muscisians you have listed.

Muddy Waters and Etta James, are probably my favorite.

Billie Holiday's "The Very Thought of You" is probably my favorite song ever, although that would be a little more jazz...

Good luck! That is really cool!

Albert King did a nice cover of "The Very Thought of You" years ago.

It's such a shame that so many blues musicians come to a sad end.

He's just a kid and probably hasn't earned the credibility of the greats who you listed - but I like Jonny Lang. I think just because it tickles me that Fargo ND could produce a blues musician like that!

You'd have to be Back Door Man, wouldn't you?

Yeah, Fargo is the polar opposite of the Mississippi Delta, for sure!

I like Jonny Lang but I think he needs some development.

"Back Door Man?" Whatever could have prompted such a description? lol

Johnny Lang is HOT! What a voice that dude has... I love Muddy Waters, Johnny Winters, Hooker, etc. I also have become entrenched in the local blues scene and go out to see live music a lot.

I just checked Guitar Center's website and didn't see any info about a competition... how did you hear? I did hear they are taking orders on 175 Gibson doublenecks signed by Jimmy Page when the doors open tomorrow...

Elevate me...

Hey, hippie, long time no see.

Guitar Center has ads in all the guitar mags and the website has a link called King of the Blues which you have to click on to be transferred.

Which clubs do you go to on the Island? I'd be interested in finding out b/c I keep trying to find open jams but without much luck.

Canice, I go to open jams all the time! There are open jams almost every night of the week. If you want, I can send you the name of a bluesjam newlist that you can subscribe to that has everything listed.

Off to check out the website again...

Elevate me...
