MONTY PYTHON

A few days ago, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin announced the return of Monty Python. Monty Python’s Flying Circus will return for at least one show in London next July. The five founder members of Monty Python cannot be joined by Graham Chapman who “ceased to be” over 20 years ago.

Monty Python’s Flying Circus, a comedy sketch show, was aired on British television from 1969 to 1974. Their famous sketches include the 'Cheese Shop', 'Dead Parrot', 'Nudge, Nudge', 'Spam', 'The Lumberjack Song', 'The Ministry of Silly Walks', 'The Spanish Inquisition', and 'Upper Class Twit of the Year'. They also produced several films including Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

ABC, the US television channel, was sued for damages by Monty Python in 1975. ABC had cut over 20 minutes from each of their three televised shows to make time for adverts. The judge said that ABC “should have anticipated that most of the excised material contained scatological references inappropriate for American television and that these scenes would be replaced with commercials, which presumably are more palatable to the American public." Monty Python won the case!

Are you a fan of Monty Python?
What are your favourite comedy shows on television?
How would you describe your sense of humour?

I was never a fan of Monty Python. I found their comedy too surreal; I was also probably too young to fully appreciate Monty Python’s Flying Circus when it was first shown on television. My favourite comedy show is Frasier. My humour is dry, wry and sometimes sarcastic (though I prefer to say ironic). I’ve never fully appreciated the difference between irony and sarcasm.

I've caught scenes from The Holy Grail and knew that there was just a bit of something "missing" for me to "get it". Still, it looked like it was funny.

I actually think I might like it if I saw it. ... Monty Python has a lot of pop cultural references and is high up on the long list of "classics" that I hope to catch up on 'someday'.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

Are you a fan of Monty Python? I have been a fan of Monty Python since my teen years.
What are your favourite comedy shows on television? Big Bang Theory is the only comedy sitcom I watch but I will stop to watch comedians often.
How would you describe your sense of humour? I have a sarcastic wit. I seem to enjoy humor in almost all things. To many folk's dismay, I can find the humor in even the most dire of circumstances. This could be my way of avoiding the seriousness of life.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

This may not be a popular view,, but,,,,,, I can proudly say I have never seen any of it. The excerpts I have seen just did not appeal to me. The recent news coverage has only reinforced that decision (for me)

I enjoy the antics of Monty Python, have since the late 70's. So yes, you could say I'm a fan.
I watch the Big Bang Theory, the stand up's on Comedy Central
You could describe my sense of humor as off beat.

I like Monty Python. I use to watch him a long time ago. My favourite show now is two and half men even without Charlie in it. Still really good. Lots of laughs hugs V

I enjoy some, though not all, Monty Python sketches now, though when I was younger I just didn't get it.

They have been described as The Beatles of comedy, but I think that claim is a bit exaggerated.

I can take or leave the humour of Monty Python...

My favourite comedy on tv at the moment has to be '2 broke girls', not all the characters are funny or even tolerable but some of the witty dialogue can't be beat...

I would describe my sense of humour as a combination of puerile, oblique, obscene and German (I don't find the concept of people being injured in a mishap funny, either). Apparently, as a general rule, neither do they. But it was them or another Nordic(esque) nation that have "chaudenfreud" (I hope that's the correct spelling) for when people laugh at the mishap of another out of relief that it isn't happening to them. I never laugh at the misfortunes of others but sometimes laugh at my own if the mishap isn't too grave.
I've not come across 2 Broke Girls; I'll try and watch it given your recommendation.

I've not seen one show of Two And A Half Men with or without Charlie Sheen, who's had some seriously bad press over in the UK!

Blackadder was another one show, like Monty Python, that I couldn't quite get into. I kept trying and though I thought it was funny I never thought it was funny as my friends did for some reason.

I've no idea why Monty Python got their name or where it came from. Possibly it came from nowhere like their surreal comedy!

Rumours are that Monty Python will put on more shows on top of their London show. They're probably go to America for a show or two.
