Take my girlfriend, please!  As many of you are aware, ol Tazzerman lived in Israel for a couple of years back in the 70's. I was going through my 'global troubadour' phase or something.. LOL The kibbutz (look it up) I lived on had a very large contingent of Danish folks who had volunteered for 1,2,3 or more month stints. It was actually a good deal for them. They could take a summer vacation someplace warm, close to the beach, with room and board provided and all they had to do in exchange was work their asses off farming or artificially inseminating chickens The chicken story or what not. I met a girl while working in the chicken coup named Annie. She was just the most gorgeous Scandinavian blond you ever saw and we had a wonderful summertime 'fling' before she finally went back to Denmark. Every once and a while we could get an entire weekend off from the kibbutz and we decided to go to Jerusalem together. Neither of us had been there yet and we had heard that the train was the best way go so I booked us into a VERY nice hotel, just a block or so from the old city and we hopped on the train early on Friday and off we went. The train ride was fantastic and yes, seeing Jerusalem for the very first time from the train is an experience I would HIGHLY recommend. The train slowly winds its way up the hills and mountains from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and finally as you approach the city, especially in the afternoon, the air, sky and land actually takes on this incredible gold color. Then all of the sudden, you round a corner and BANG there's the whole city laid out below you with the sun glinting off the Dome of Rock and lending everything that awesome golden hue. It is magnificent to see. But I digress. We checked into the hotel and after spending a few months living on the kibbutz, we were relishing in actual air conditioning and a private bathroom. Not to mention room service. It was HEAVEN! Later that evening we decided to take a walk through the old city and set out on our adventure.. Walking through the old city of Jerusalem is like taking a step back 3000 years. Not much has changed in the intervening years. Once again, it's an experience that I HIGHLY recommend for folks of all faiths etc. We were enthralled at the various shops and markets and found ourselves going deeper and deeper into those narrow roads and alley ways until we finally found ourselves in what I can best describe as the Arab quarter or section. It was there that we ran across this very funny and nice young Arab who spoke no English or Hebrew but was hell bent on communicating SOMETHING to us. After MUCH discussion in various languages and with hand signs we finally figured out what this cherubic face little guy was on about. He had a HUGE<b> hunk </font></b>of red Lebanese hash, fresh out of the Bekaa valley that he was hell bent on selling us. Now both Annie and I were MORE than happy to indulge ourselves but we also knew that the penalties for dealing in Israel were VERY severe not to mention the fact that we were totally exposed and vulnerable. Once we realized what he was wanting we quickly turned to haggling over the price. Communications was a bit difficult as you can imagine but it finally dawned on me what this little guy was asking for in return for that HUGE<b> hunk </font></b>of hash. He wanted Annie!! Yep, this little guy was totally serious and was more than adamant that he would indeed hand over the hash in return for my lovely girlfriend. You can only imagine WHAT he wanted from her eh? LOL After it dawned on me I finally told Annie that SHE was in fact the object of his rather strident haggling. The look on her face was priceless as it finally dawned on her what was going on... You've NEVER in your life seen two people RUN away so fast. The entire trip back to the hotel was nothing but a blur as we both ran and stumbled our way out of the old city and back to 'civilization'.. Once safely ensconced back in our room we had one incredible laugh believe it or not. The adrenalin finally subsided and we both were almost in a type of euphoria which btw, was better than just about ANY hash I'd ever smoked! After that incident, we spent the next weeks joking about it continuously, always upping the price and the stakes and we even spent a few love making sessions role-playing with me as the Arab and her as my bought and paid for sex-slave. Time marches on and eventually Annie went back to Denmark. We did keep in touch via the mail after that for a few years but eventually that stopped and we both moved on with our lives. I do miss her though not to mention all of the fun and trouble the two of us got into...  -tm |
