Interest Groups

I've been promising dominoxxz that I would get up a blog post on Interest Groups for a few weeks. The purpose of this post is to discuss issues you have or features you would like to see in the Interest Groups. It's a pretty open discussion, so anything goes as long as we all play nice.

I'll eventually link this to the Index, once my coworkers let me have 10 minutes to focus.

I'll start with a few things and update the list as we go:

Bulk emails for Group Members from Moderator
Allow Events/Meetups to be linked to a Group (coming soon)
Co-mods have the same banning feature as moderators

Could you please fix the ability to put up a poll in the groups?

I started the new group Inner Sanctum and have the settings such that I allow members to post a poll, but not even I as moderator can post a poll.

As for a suggestion, give the mods/co-mods the ability to remove/delete a member which allows them to rejoin a group if they wish. This should not replace the ban feature, but be an additional feature.

Btw, the AFF Members Focus Group is ahead of you. We've been discussing the issues and suggestions already.

I saw one above me, #8 about turned off profiles....How about we disable some features for those who turn profiles off? Like chat and cam watching abilities?

And as far as the Groups go, I closed my Group because it was just too time consuming to contact all the people and then to ban some people. That would be absolutely wonderful if ya'll could work some of that out

I would like to be able to completely DELETE a group. It is disabled now, and I was told that's all I can do.

Thanks!

I agree with everyone above that being able to "remove" members without outright banning them would be helpful. It would also be helpful if we had the option of sending a message saying why they were removed. We remove anyone who doesn't post an intro). It would be nice if we could let people know why they were removed, and give them the the option to re-join if they so chose.

I'm also with the polls. We not only can't post polls, the few we had are now gone.

Bulk mail for all the members would be helpful but also being able to send out messages to only some members would be great. It would be nice to be able to warn people that I'm going to remove them for not posting their intro post. It would be great if those messages didn't go against my daily limit (since myself and my co-mods are only standard members)

This is going to sounds silly, but the whole feature about being able to add pictures to posts. I get it that you guys want to give features for paid memberships, but this is one that standards not being able to view is disruptive for both the paid member and the standard member. It's even more so since a standard can post the picture but can't see it. (it's not clear from the posting that standards can't see it)

The only thing I HAVE to do is eat, shit, and die. Everything else is a choice.

I don't like the idea myself about limiting what people can do if they disable their profile and turn it off. Personally, there are times I would love to turn my profile off and continue and as it is it makes all my blogs invisible for anyone to read because I did that. Honestly, I would prefer to be able to do things and have my posts be seen and blogs also even if my profile is off while say I am on vacation or something.

Still the biggest problems that I see with the groups are the glitches that are going on (since at least October).

1. Create a new poll link is gone from most groups and is missing from the moderator's settings page in all cases
2. Polls from other groups appear in the wrong groups intermittently
3. Page numbers of threads should be both at the top and the bottom of each page
4. Second and subsequent paragraphs should NOT be indented
5. Moderator's settings page is missing the option to turn voting in threads on or off

I would actually NOT like to see this added. Although it would be useful to clean up the site by deleting empty or unused groups, sometimes it happens that a moderator's profile will get hacked into or a moderator will become unbalanced, and in those cases a group may get deleted maliciously, in an effort to spite the group members.

Some groups are very large with a long history and have a lot of archived posts that would be sorely missed, if some nut case were to just delete the group. Members whose posting history gets deleted would react to this in probably the same way bloggers would whose blogs get deleted, i.e., very angry and sad.

I think it's much better to just disable the group and retain the option of opening it again.

One more addition...

Maybe there could be a way for us to remove disabled groups from our group list. As it is now, if a group is disabled, there's no way for us to access the group and unjoin. Some of us have group lists that are cluttered with disabled groups.

Also, maybe what Senior Sizzle could do in the case of groups that just get abandoned is to automatically disable them after, say, six months of inactivity. Then they're out of sight and out of mind but not permanently gone. That could be a good compromise between deleting or doing nothing.

Thank you very much for this Ryan.

On the matter of the completely DELETE of a group I agree with train.
I back her with her suggestion that just disable the group and retaining the option of opening it again is the best.
And again actual we are not happy to see our profile to see stucked in a disabled group. If you try to find a solution for this and create a way to clear from our groups it will be really nice.

Especially the 2.Group post numbers below member photos
is really important.Make s me really angry to see "you've been banned from this group"

Also recently I got some mails from members claiming they are banned but when I checked couldn't find their names n the ban section. As I noticed train was complaining form the same thing too.

The best way is to make a post if you do sticky it is even better. And check in the ban section if you dont see the members handle in the ban section either tell the member that member hasnt been banned only needs to wait or better use unban button for the member even the handle is not there. The members problem you ll see is solved.I have had at least more than 5 complaints and I see they are happy now.
And I dont know but feel that site is working on it and some parts seem sorted out.

Ryan

last night and today due to the contest in the room some co mos of us were in the room and been a judge watched the cams. When I contacted with them their complain were cams get frozen and most of he contesters have to reboot the cams even their profiles.Sure we are getting a lot of mails even in their posts they are asking .Now is this also connected with bug ''INST-304"Or something else
As you know well maybe our group seems funny for a lot but still it is active and a lot loves to visit. And I know a lot of ladies enjoy too.So I get sad when I see members getting nervous. These started to happen after the change of the section of broadcasting mainly.Do you think these will will be avoided?

Thank you

Mr.D

Thank you for explaining that. I was wondering why my group only had one topic and others could have many and I can't even edit my group to change what the topic is.

I'm still too scared to change my group settings. A friend changed one of her settings a few nights ago, and all her groups posts went into a "denied" status for at least 8 hours. Something is still obviously wrong with the group settings.

I'd like to know what the new button "edit group settings" will be for and whether it has anything to do with the problems.
