singing...

singing...
I am generally a happy person. I don't ask for very much, I love my work... All in all there aren't many things that I'd like to change... Except perhaps one... I can't sing to save my life. I am totally tone deaf. And sadly, music plays a major part in my life, I work while listening to music, I drive the same way, I go to concerts every chance I get... I have a sizable record and cd collection, more than 8000 albums by now and I download a lot. But even though my voice is pleasant enough, I just can't sing...

I wasn't always aware of that. It isn't a matter of genes. Much to my shame my grandmother was a classically trained voice major... Much to my relief she never heard me sing. The stark reality of my singing limitations came in elementary school. There were two incidents...

The first was when our music teacher was auditioning boys for the school choir. He would come by our desks, one by one, and ask us to sing 'Jingle Bells' for him. When he came near me, I had barely gotten to 'J..." when he tapped me on the shoulder and said "That's fine, thank you". Funnily enough the boy sitting next to me turned out to be the class star singer. And by an odd coincidence I saw him today and reminded him of that little story. We both burst out laughing...

The second incident occurred a few weeks later. I was a cub scout and we had gone out caroling on Christmas Eve. We would go from house to house and sing and they would give us treats, sweets and toys etc... After the second or third house, our leader approached me. He handed me a small object and as discreetly as possible he said, "Why don't you just jingle the bells?"... I didn't say a word, just obediently went on with them, silently jingling the bells from house to house... I never told my parents, never told any friends. Nor did I ever complain, it just isn't within my nature to do so... I just never sang in public again.

Nowadays I don't even sing in the shower. I'm sure my neighbors would complain!... I only sing when I drive alone... with the windows rolled up to avoid any major traffic accidents... or maybe even getting a ticket for offensive behavior!...

As always... my love... my kisses.

Wow, thats kinda harsh for your scout leader to do. It should be fun for everyone, no matter if a child can sing or not. We enjoy each and every one of our kids during our programs. Even the ones that come in late or still sing after the song is over! They are kids!

My voice can break glass darling! However, if a song comes on that I enjoy...I let her rip! Who cares! I was on the phone with a friend tonight, just chatting while I packed boxes up. I was listening to 80's tunes, pretty loudly because that's my thing. Anyway, I started to sing and he said he was gonna be saved by the fact that the battery in his cell phone was almost dead! AWWW! It's all good though! Serenade us darling! Go for it! xoxo T

I sing in the car too I'm sure the people passing me on the freeway think I'm NUTS.

Have you ever tried karaoke? The one time I did it, I was amazed at how accepting everyone was. If someone got up and sang, there were lots of pats on the back and 'nice job's as they went back to their seat - no matter HOW dreadful they were. Kind of a 'we're all in this together' attitude.

Lol.. I always managed to bag the lead in the school choir but I have an horrendous voice! Nowadays I can't bare to sing in front of people but I have started over coming the fear of embarrassment by singing along to my mp3 player whilst walking down the street! It's a very liberating feeling I can tell you

~Shhhhhh.... I'm not really here~

Brings my work o' the day to mind! Diana had rinsed a pt. back, the machine needed to be stripped, I came up behind her singing, "I'm here!"
Told the story of being in grade school, the teacher calling out the attendance and us having to sing, "I'm here!" She did that in Germany as well, she said!
The patient laughed! The next pt. to come off zeroed out and I sang, "I'm here!" Started giving him his blood back, and said something to him. He said, "What!" I said, "Oh, I sing to ya and now you can't hear?!!!!"

I totally know the feeling man! I don't care though! Have fun singing!!! It's cool!
