Chatrooms - remember when....

I remember as a geeky student at university (1997) discovering the world of AOL, the chat rooms they had opened a new world of meeting people. Rooms covering the mundane from cookery tips and hobbies to the safe dating of meeting singles in 20s only rooms, 30s only rooms to the adult hardcore rooms.

Similarly Yahoo, pal talk, ICQ (they had a great generate a random person to talk to function)... Yet now as far as I can see these chat rooms don't exist anymore.

Does anyone still use chat rooms?

I know the Senior Sizzle chat rooms are busy but it seems they are mainly frequented by US users...
