LIVING IN SUNSHINE AND HEAT

It's pretty frightening to most people who live in normal parts of the world that have three seasons, when I write that from this date until the end of September, every day, aside from a hand full of rare cloudy days, will reach a temperature above 100 ...

When it goes up to only 105, my place seldom needs anything special aside from one window air conditioner buzzing along on low, to keep it snug and cool inside.

During July and August, the daily temperature is seldom below 110, and the nights are in the high 80's or low 90's.

I much prefer the warm temps. to cold days. The only thing I dislike about the summers here, is not--strangely--the heat. It's the GLARE. Most days there are no clouds in the sky-- whatever. The sun here is not the yellow color depicted in paintings and photographs, it's a blowtorch colored WHITE. Like the glaring reflection from a mirror, or the white high beams from new cars.

When I first moved here, during the first summer I was here, I went through a hand full of sunglasses trying to get a pair that would properly filter that glaring summer sun. This year, when I had glasses made for me at WalMart, I had FAITH( the optician at WalMart), make two pairs of sunglasses using the darkest, most protective ultra-radiation lenses that WalMart provides
The glasses are outstanding! I need to immediately take them off when I come inside because they're so dark I can't see inside when I first come in.

This morning, I'm working on a section of my roof that gets the first rays of the rising sun and absorbs heat through the thin wall where the sunlight first hits. I'm building a second section --a second wall with an air space between the two walls in order to keep the heat radiation from coming through this thin wall into the enclosed porch that I use as a workroom.. When it's built, I'll layer the
outside that the sunlight first hits with thin metal, and paint it white.

It's not a big job and will only occupy about one or two weeks of early morning activity. It's too hot to work on it after 8:30 because the sun seems to act as a hot plate on that section of roof..

By constantly improving my place like this, I keep making it more
energy efficient and much more comfortable.

When one lives on the Mojave in Southern Calif. during the summers, getting up very early in the mornings--not later than 5 AM-- is a necessity if a person is going to get anything done before it gets too hot to do anything outside.

Are you a do-it-yourselfer like me? Do you like getting up very early mornings?

OH, Silky, that's so thoughtful of you.. The truth is I do a lot of things during the cool part of the year, but the morning heat doesn't really bother me, I'm always back inside by 10 or 11. I'm a very physical man and need to use my body doing physical things.I think I'm in such good condition because I've always been very active physically. Thanks, love, david

The military woke me to the charm that mornings have... I probably always had the chemistry that wakes me full of piss and vigor in the very early mornings, but those 3 years of getting up and running, and then doing Physical Training before breakfast, worked their way into my psyche, and have stayed with me all these years....just as the great feeling a bald, shaved head, gave me the first time I got it in boot camp, and now I still shave my head a couple of times a year... and love that feeling. Yeah.. I love that first cup of Java in the morning too.... dave

Sometimes I think you and I must be related.. We have so many similar traits..You're absolutely right in doing things slowly and enjoying the task--dave---and better than most contractors could do the jobs.

Yes, Yes, Yes!! Sweetness.. Mornings are like the clean sheet of fresh paper I used to roll into my typewriter when I was doing story treatments.. You just never know how the day will turn out... Each day is a great adventure for me.. love you, david

I've always been a morning person.. I love the time just before the sun rises...Incidentally... you wanted to know what I did after I reached 39, so I wrote you that blog about my infamous youth..

I really know how some of you gorgeous women feel with so many men chasing you... When we made the films, all of us were chased by women wanting to give us sex if they could be in the films.. love, silky one, dave...(After 39, I pretty much have done what I want to do..)..

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.
