BIG BOX STORES, LOVE 'EM OR HATE THEM ?
BIG BOX STORES--LOVE 'EM OR HATE THEM

Last year either in late September or early October, one of those huge WalMart box stores was finished, and finally opened to the public, in a place called Yucca Valley out here on the High Mojave Desert of Southern California.

I've done a lot of shopping ONLINE with WalMart, and have always had a good experience with them, but I'd never been in one of their huge stores that sell groceries and everything else imaginable.

The big store built in Yucca Valley requires a 50 mile round trip to get to and from it. That is, if, I drive down some trails across some desert. It's a 60 mile round trip going on mostly paved roads.

I imagine most of you guys reading this posting on my blog, have already been in one of WalMart's huge stores, but until this store opened I had never been in one...

I was frankly amazed at the square footage of the store. I would guess it must be on a full five acres, and has more food in one place than I'd ever seen before... The prices too, were--are--spectacular.

I would shop at that store all the time if it was just a little closer to my place.

The store has an Optical Section where I've bought 4 pairs of prescription glasses, and I estimate saved about $400.00 just on the glasses. Each time I make the long trip to the store and back, I've loaded down my car with all sorts of things that are twice as expensive here where I live, or just aren't available here.

So, my vote is definitely in favor of this sort of huge box store.

 walmarts are all over,, as are target stores now. we don't put much thought into them, we all just go shopping... its pretty common place to see them around here......

I hear what you're sayin', Sgt. I like shopping on line too. There's really more choices on line than in the big stores, too.

I'm a good walker though, and it's fun--probably because it's new for me--to walk for a couple of hours around that big store and poke my nose into a lot of things. I'm also a friendly shopper and get into a lot of conversations with strangers that's a lot of fun for me. Thanks for you comment.. david

So far we're not even getting any smoke around my area. As far as having to worry about my place getting caught in a wildfire, the chances are next to nothing,, there's really nothing around my place to burn.. Thanks for the concern, Dennis a appreciate it, david.
