 I think we all stick with others who are familiar because that what we're all comfortable with.
Without having any experience, I'd think dating a person with a similar disability would give you a connection; you'd truly know how the other felt about things.
I've dated a woman who was deaf; but that's not the physical disabilities I think you're talking about.
