 The format I first saw, before the last one, the blogs had their own drop-down menu on the menu bar across the top and allowed you to access your blog, post, or hit the main page from anywhere on the site. THAT was best.

 I am slowly getting used to the new format, I'm not real sure if I like yet it or not...It does give me more options, but it also takes far more key strokes...I like the new bling
some times the things that comes from between my ears makes me pause for reflection

I don't know what metric they're using to decide what is trending. I think it's a few of them, with equal weight given to each. I'm not sure that's helpful in exposing the community to new bloggers. The only way to do that, really, is reverse trending. Show the LEAST viewed and commented on blogs. The popular blogs are going to continue to get theirs with this current format.
