Wintergrey

It may be cold and damp and dark outside,
the further north you live the more you can understand that.

But hay, it is Winter and the long warm summers evening
are put away for yet another year.

It is easy to becomes depressed, looking at the cold and grey
but Christmas is coming with all the joy and jolliment that will be made.

Life here has been busy, no new arrivals or departures yet,
but am on a count down and ready...

I hope you all are well and looking forward to the season ahead,
Thanksgiving for some and then the shopping rush.

These are the visions I have in my head...

Warm coat and scarves and hats and mittens,
Breath condensing in the chilled air,

Young couples walking hand in hand,
Older couples with in tow,

Enlightened by the magic of the shopping windows
dressed for the season.

These displays bringing me to magical lands
and places where we all have been,
even if only in our dream.
Somewhere in the distance there are carol singers singing..

Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la....

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells
Jingle all the way....
Oh what fun it is to ride
on a one open sleigh...

And as the season draws us forward we reminisce upon times past and take the good from our experiences and join them to the present and build new future memories based upon those combined and shared experiences.

This year, like other years, there are changes, nothing stays the same, life goes on, throws a few curved balls, people grow up, set out on voyages of their own, make new lives, new beginnings, new doors opening, old ones closing, but the song remains the same....

from chasing dreams and fire flies in the summer sun to
walking the streets in the cold November Rain!

Inspiration can come in many forms, sometimes just browsing the shop windows, and you see something that "clicks" and realise you are looking at the "perfect" gift. Other times it's down to lists, "socks", "scarves", "gloves", "slippers", "scented candles", "wines" and "cheeses" ... and other times nothing fits.

I have a dream, a song to sing,
To help me cope, with anything...
If you see the wonder, of a fairy tale,
You can take the future, even if you fail...
I believe in angels,
Something good in everything I see!
I believe in angels,
When I know the time is right for me!
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream!

I have a dream, a fantasy,
To help me through, reality...
And my destination, makes it worth the while,
Pushing through the darkness, still another mile...
I believe in angels,
Something good in everything I see!
I believe in angels,
When I know the time is right for me!
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream!
I'll cross the stream - I have a dream!

I Have A Dream - Abba

And all I want for Christmas
is ...
...my two front teeth...
... not telling ...
- or the dream might die -

... and may all your Christmas wishes
come true!

I cannot blame you - sometimes when the wind is cold hibernation seems like a good strategy - but then one might miss Christmas and New Year celebrations - and they are not wuite the same in spring... lol

We are a small family, for Xmas only me and the boys.
Would love to be with my mom but she is not living here and to be honest, would ruin our own Xmas traditions...

Just practising some carrols, Xmas party in a week

    Lovely post
Oh yes the Christmas party season is upon us... gives people a chance to meet outside of work and other environments... spreading cheer to all.

Chrostmas has so many traditions, some we make and some we take from the past, but what works for you is best overall - enjoy the carol singing and season.

You put a smile on my face and warmed my heart.

It may still officially be autumn, but we've had snow twice, temps in the teens, and Christmas music on the local radio station for two and a half weeks. I'm in the mood for warm fires and cuddling up to watch some sappy Halmark Channel movie.
There are so many nice things about this time of your... maybe it is the warm feeling inside when it is cold out... it happens.

We have had no snow yet, but just had a bad wind storm, it's been mild enough too so had and gloves have not been needed.. not so sure about all the Christmas music though - when it gets stuck upon repeat.

So spread the Christmas smile and festive cheer

Happy holidays........I love the snow as long as it isn't to cold here.

Thank you, we are on overtime now.. lol...

The problem with snow is that it does tend to be cold, but I know what you mean, there is biting cold and warm cold (if that is not a contradiction).

We did some holiday baking this weekend. I started putting up some decorations and dusting off ornaments. I am excited for Christmas this year but not for the gifts. I am glad to be home with my family. Though we won't have snow it has been chilly. Our leaves are still turning and falling. I feel like a kid more so because I am happy. Now if I can just drag everyone else along.
    Lovely post!
I have five boxes of Christmas decorations in the living room, am waiting for my younger daughter to help put them up, she loves doing it... I agree that it is not the gifts but being surrounded by family and friends and not having to watch the time too - that is important, but then we get lots of time off over Christmas.

The last of our leaves are falling, but it spreads more light around too, even if there are bare branches, there are the evergreens too...

LOL - trying to think what it would be like to have Christmas in Summer... lol... but am sure that south of the Equator they could explain, and, while Christmas dinner on Bondi Beach may seem appealing, I think that part of Christmas is sitting around warm fires and hot drinks in hand... lights, early dark evenings and of course hope for the future.

The wee one is due today but am sure will be running late.... lol!

Thanks for the nice warm post. Reminds me of home.

    Stay well!
The shopping, the lists, the inspiration, things bought on the spur of the moment... that warm feeling that only Christmas can bring.

It's too early for Christmas posts yet GerK!!!

Those shop window blings remind me of Switzers Christmas windows....I always took the children in to see them and the lights on Grafton Street....that seems so long ago now.

The November Rain has been damn cold this year....and the walking in it hasn't been too pleasant either.

I think I may have said this to you another year....but the wish is ever the same my friend....may all your dreams come true.

I remember Switzer's window as well, a different theme each year and each window dressed to tell part of a story. Grafton Street to Henry Street and O'Connell Street as well, the markets and stalls selling lights decorations and wind up or battery operated toys... something to eat then head home on the bus.... it was all just one day a year but well worth it.

I do wish you and yours the best for the season ahead - I know it is early for Christmas, but then I have to take things as they come, I am not in control of my calender this time.

Gerk Great to see you back and a beautiful post to winter time for us. This is the time of the year where depression sets in for some folks. Not always the best time of the year. I love summer!

I am off to Mexico for 3 weeks at the end of the month.. Trying to get away from the damp wet cold of winter for now.. I hope our renos have been going well.

    A Winter Message

A flake of snow in flurry thro’ the air
Had landed as a kiss upon my cheek:
    A secret message, just for me to share;
To take to heart but never dare to speak
About or presuppose to other eyes
Your open feelings – distant though they are.
And so, upon your lips, my OWN surprise:
A flake of snow returned from me afar.

Oh for seasons I prefer the warm summer evening, and if I had my way I would be in Florida for Thanksgiving, but this year the expected arrival is much more important... . the renovations and things have progressed nicely and the place is respectable again - just some decluttering to to.

Enjoy your trip to Mexico and thank you for sharing that lovely poem.

It is a beautiful time, once the seasons preparations start to show through, the sounds and the lights and the smells and the atmosphere, and family and friends and presents and things.....

... forget about January until after the 6th - then the room will look bare as the decorations are packed away for another year. But at least by then there is a stretch in the evening and soon the daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops will fill the scene and herald the approach of Spring.

True,

sometimes we have spring to look forward to, when the grey skies and dampness obscure everything, then we can think of the spring blossoms unfurling, but there is something magical about Christmastime too.
