A Novel Concept

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” ~Winston Churchill

Lately, I've stumbled upon several blogs that appear to be antagonistic or perpetuating drama.

Here is a word for you: Optimism.

It can turn a situation that looks negative or bleak into an opportunity or something to learn from.

It can replace the draining thoughts of pessimism with something that will give you more energy and enthusiasm again.

And it can help you to jump over obstacles, to keep moving when you fall or stumble and to not give up just because of temporary setbacks.

Lately I've found myself drawn to blogs that are positive and have been shying away (and considering removing myself from watching any blog) thats appears to be outwardly negative or antagonistic. I have enough drama with my and blogging (whether it be reading others or posting) offers me a means to escape. I sure as heck don't want to come here to read more drama!

Here's a novel thought: perhaps we should all focus on injecting more optimism into our own blogs rather than attacking others.

Because we tend to reap what we put forth the long run.

And in the short run, well, we get an added benefit of giving smiles to others when we spread our own optimism. Not to mention our self-esteem will receive a boost when we rise above the pettiness.

Here's a challenge: let's see how many bloggers can make a commitment to inject more positivity and less pessimism into their blogs.

Works for me, myelin. I have noticed some of what you point out too. I have a preference to read rather than write blogs but that's me. Regardless, I agree it is nicer to read those that are more positive, or informative or entertaining than those that "piss in the wind."

I'll happily keep watching yours. Hope your recent dates have been awesome!

Recent dates? What recent dates? Do you know something I don't know?!

Snow storms would be a welcome reprieve from the 100 degree heat we've had lately.

I can handle a good rant once in a while but a steady diet of it...my mind starts to wander. If I let it wander too far one of these days it might not come back, and I'm still gonna need it for a couple more years.

I have mixed feelings about this. Two of my favorite political writers are Hunter S. Thompson and Matt Taibbi. You'll find some positivity in there but you're gonna have to look for it. On the other end are Thich Nhat Hanh and the Dalai Lama. You'd need a lice comb to find any negativity in those two. I can certainly understand the need to look for balance in your personal life, and why you'd need to weed out negativity when you're confronted with it in your working life daily.

But I can also remember the positivity that prompted Englishmen to say of Mussolini that " By Jove, the man made the trains run on time!"

One thing I've noticed is there are several bloggers who I enjoyed (past tense) reading because they were good writers and managed to come up with interesting content that challenged my thought process.

Now some bloggers have become fixated on the concept of 'justice'. While I get that the world is an unfair place and this site in particular, I get tired of reading about the same topic over and over. It's like beating the horse yet the damn thing continues to get back up and rear it's mutilated head. Frustrating to read these types of blogs that are full of wrath and contempt.

I'd much rather read something inspiring for a change. Hopefully these bloggers will recognize their writing talent is being thwarted and revive the content that once drew me to read their blogs in the first place.

I used to read a blog that was a train wreck every post...kind of like slowing down to see an accident. Every time I would read it, I would think - why do I do this to myself??? Thankfully the blogger stopped posting.

It's weird since I'm quite positive and am allergic to drama.

I tend to abide by the rule my mama taught me - keep your mouth shut if you have nothing nice to say. But mess with my people and I can't guarantee your safety. I'm still figuring out how that translates in blogland.

xoxo

Always tell the truth
Use kind words
Keep your promises
Giggle and laugh
Be positive
Love one another
Always be grateful
Forgiveness is mandatory
Try new things
Say please and thank you
Say your prayers

I think I know what blog you were referring to. Even though I tried to avoid that blog, something always lulled me back. I presume it had something to do with how our brains function when we perceive others struggles. Truth be told, after reading the "trainwreck" blog, it made me feel 100 percent better about any perceived flaws or inadequacies I had. I'm crediting reverse psychology for how our brains are wired.

I don't post to inspire people but I do get inspiration from other blogs.
I've been here a while and have read a few train wrecks in my time.

That is pretty much my philosophy, and I have found some really great blogs (too many, in fact). Some people seem to like controversy and can deal with it, but it doesn't do anything for me.
