Sitting Out This Month's Symposium

I am spending time with my parents in Oklahoma celebrating mother's day. As part of this weekend's festivities, we attended a local festival in my hometown celebrating the town's Czech heritage. Dubbed the "Kolache" festival, it is a tribute to the fruit filled yeast pastry popular to the Prague Czech region.

Here are a few photos for those that may be curious.

Hope you are having an awesome weekend. Happy mothers day to all of you moms!

Xoxo,
Myelin

That's ok... I'll take pastries and dancing over science any day! Glad you get to spend time with family!

Moms are definitely more important than symposia, so by my lights you've made the correct choice. But if you have any twinges of guilt over sitting it out, feel free to atone by posting more photos from the festival. Looks like a lot of fun!

I enjoyed visiting the craft fair and sampled some amazing wine. I purchased a bottle of Oklahoma made sangria wine. I can't wait to have friends over so they can sample some!

Thanks it was an interesting day. We dodged some sketchy storms on our way home yesterday afternoon.

Happy mothers day.
If you are not Czech, you got to try szolana on rye bread. Awesome stuff. My neighbors and close friends in my old place were Czechoslovakians. I used to be the grill master at their parties making dirty bread.

Have fun! Do you have some Czech in you?

myelin36 replies on 5/8/2016 1:57 pm:
None whatsoever. But it's always so much fun to "pretend" I do if just for a day!

I love Kolaches! I recommend enjoying them with a hot cup of tea, followed by intimate conversation, then vigorous physical activity to burn off the calories.

I was struggling all weekend with a pulled muscle in my back so I ended up doing a lot of walking but very little strenuous exercise. I didn't want to exacerbate by injury.

Even though I didn't eat any Kolaches, they did look good. I chose to be a rebel and split a funnel cake with fruit topping with my daughter. It was pretty yummy.

I enjoy ethnic fares (Dutch and Scottish are big around here). Thanks for the pictures and have a lovely time!

I'm fond of Czechs. Forgive me for this...an overdrawn Czech:

We had a fun day. We grilled a picnic in the park and I did a lot of people watching. I grew up in this town but rarely do I recognize anyone I grew up with. People have changed so much in the 25+ years since I left.

The pastries resemble cookies but they are actually more of a fruit filled danish with a streusel topping.

If I am any judge those are homemade kolaches , and where can I buy a dozen? Which will be solely for personal use!

Take it easy, guns are cold.

You might be hard-pressed to find them unless you decide make a trip to Prague, Oklahoma. I know the bakery there sells them.
