Sour Grapes?

I happened upon a blog yesterday which gave me pause and cause for reflection. In the blog, the writer lamented in her opinion, how slow the bloglines have been as of late. She mentioned that she had been visiting blogs and found she had "little interest" in viewing the majority of blogs on the leaderboard.

Obviously she did not specify why. One can not help but speculate why the writer felt this way. Is it because several of the blogs on the leaderboard appear to be somewhat shallow and self-serving?

I'll admit that a few of my blogs have included content which to some might catagorize as fitting the definition of being shallow or self-serving. Certainly people have a right to blog about what feels right to them. For a lot of bloggers, myself included, my blog is an outlet for repressed thoughts which I prefer to share anonymously in this type of forum.

But to lump everyone who finds themselves on the leaderboard into a narrowly defined catagory? To me, that is stereotyping. The problem with stereotyping or lumping everyone into a box can really be self-limiting. Those that you pass judgment on just might surprise you with some rather thought-provoking content.

If you are reading this, do you find yourself stereotyping bloggers on the leaderboard and deliberately avoid reading them? I'll admit that when I first began to blog, I found myself turned off by some of the more narcissistic bloggers. Since then, I've taken time to read several the blogs I formerly passed judgment on and I find quite a few to be rather thought-provoking from time to time.

I do not even know what the 'leaderboard' is....
but I tend to first visit those who have visited my blog.
I do not have a whole lot of time for blogging so any
extra are simply random picks for me.

You blog you and do not worry about what others think....
they probably just wish they were you and sooner
or later they will get over that.

Was it Mark Twain that said "Plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery" ?

I noticed that just yesterday, a popular male blogger blogged about the exact topic I posted nearly a week ago in my blog which he happened to comment on. Plagerism? Hard to say. Perhaps we are both drawn to the same types of subject matter.

I prefer the term categorizing over stereotyping, after reading many posts by the same person, leaderboard or not, if their style or common themes dont interest me and their school of thought differs vastly to mine, then I do avoid reading anything further they pen.
Admittedly there are a few "ignored" blogs on the leaderboard but thats just coincidence, I read what I like and ignore what I dont, I can see why most members on that board are there and enjoy reading them, its just a preference to ignore the others ??? Like reading thrillers over romance novels ???
Think Ive explained myself ??? Ive confused myself and gone
cross-eyed !

I definitely get it. We all have preferences on what we like. Some prefer easy reading comic books while others prefer classics like The Odessey. My blog is not everyone's cup of tea if reading comic books is more your forte.

Lots of narcissism out there. I have my favorites and I always read yours.

myelin36 replies on 2/9/2015 4:24 pm:
Indeed there is a great deal of narcissism within the blogs. One can not help but occasionally feel a need for self-validation myself included. Some insecure people seem more drawn to the need for validation more so than others.

Since the author did not specify why, might we conclude that you're projecting your own thoughts onto said post?

Smart as a horse and hung like Einstein.

Of course I am forming my own conclusions. Of course if I wanted to engage the blogger into potential conflict, I could have simply asked her but her open-ended blog left me to speculate.

Hmmm...I haven't paid much attention to the leaderboard. I tend to read the blogs that are most recently posted and any that are new in my Watch List.....but that's not the question is it? heh heh

Do I stereotype bloggers? Not sure I'd say I stereotype them but, after I've read a number of blogs by an individual, I do pass judgement about whether I am interested in watching or reading regularly.

I have been blogging for many years...... I was here when the leader board was created. It was never my goal to be on the leader board.

I will tell you that I have observed many cat fights over the concept of the leader board.

it seems to me that when you create a leader board.....for some it becomes a popularity contest. It then brings more people to the popular most blogs and leaves many of us out in the cold.

I'm not saying being out in the cold is a bad thing. I personally feel no pressure to post frequently. I do it when time allows, never worrying how many people visit.

For what it's worth.....

Thanks for your input. As for myself, I have a lot of thoughts that swim around in my head. I tend to be a very deep thinker which to some might seem off-putting. I don't post blogs just for the sake of playing a numbers game unlike some. For me it is truly an outlet. Being a therapist, you hear so many things. I just need an outlet to bounce ideas off of others and for me this has been valuable.

Well I guess I only started reading the blogs about a month or two ago so I haven't really had time to get very jaded. I don't think I stereotype bloggers, though I did take one off my watched list last week because I got tired of the whining. So far I've just looked at the recent post list and from there found interesting posts that I liked and then checked their blog and if I liked what they had to say in general then I added them to my watched list. I've found your blog to be the most interesting and thought provoking so far. I like some of the blogs with jokes, laughs are always welcome. Some are people just expressing thoughts or relating experiences which can be interesting.

I think it's a good place for people to work through issues or problems they may be having. Things they may not be comfortable talking to the people in their lives about.

I can't say as I've made any worthwhile posts myself so far but I do comment on the posts others make when I feel like sharing or expressing an opinion or thought. People don't have to pay any attention though if they don't want to.
