Universal Healthcare, Part III, the Swiss system

In Switzerland, they require ALL people to have a minimum healthcare policy, even if visiting, if staying for more than 30 days.

The basic policy must cover all catostrophic care, there are even companies that offer 'tourist policies' for visitors, when Sandra and I visited, we had one, just to be on the safe side. It cost us like $70 for the 10 day trip.

Most employers, even employers who offer what we consider 'crappy' jobs offer a discounted policy, this is, naturally, passed on to their as increased prices, but no one in Switzerland seems to care about this, as no one is going to run around without basic healthcare.

If you desire better than minimal coverage, you're free to get it on the free market or you can find an employer who offers better than minimal insurance. The employer, typically, will give you the money they'd spend on the policy of the company to put towards a better policy. There's no such thing as a pre-existing condition, you can get your policy from any company in any canton (cantons are like states, only smaller and based on the main city within it).

If, for some reason, you find you're unemployed (they have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world), you STILL must pay for the insurance, the unemployment you get from government is better than here, especially in Florida. If you cannot make the payments with your unemployment, you can apply to the canton for assistance.

Why do I like this? The costs are spread amongst those who use it, it does NOT kill private industry, it does NOT form a whole new beareaucratic branch of government to fuck up the processes.

What say you?

It is...

BUT the best part is that they have not experienced the rapid inflation we have due to governmental interferance.
