Topless Freedom In Sydney
Topless Freedom In Sydney Topless Freedom In Sydney © David Newton 2/01/09 I love going to the beach ... Just around New Year time, a NSW Polly wanted to push a law to ban topless bathers from all of Sydney's beaches. In a move that would set us back at least 30 years he thought our beaches were not a night club or a strip club (strange news to the rest of us?) all because he reckoned that a little bit of exposed nipples would shy some (conservative) bathers away from the beaches. What's so bad about a bit of topless freedom? And why do we have to "ban" everything especially the freedoms we all enjoy so much? Why so much shame with the human body after all? I asked a lady artist recently why she painted so many naked women, .... and she said, that women are "The Perfect Form". If I go to a beach and see women with bear breasts I have a choice to see it as something sexual &/or something simply normal. Breasts come in all shapes and sizes and breasts are adorable. Western society and that of a few other well known cultures want to "demonize" our naked bodies and make us somehow "feel inferior" to even show our bare bodies in public in any shape or form. (No wonder society has some huge hangups about nakedness.) At best most of us can adore nakedness in only artistic forms at say an art gallery - and be able to look generously without being concerned about it. And even that freedom is slowly being challenged too. You know, just recently at the beach I sat near a topless bather and she even asked me if I could spread some suntan lotion on her bare top. No inhibitions at all. Some women are oblivious to even being topless when at the beach it seems. It’s a personal choice issue. If politicians want to remove our freedoms (hey I thought they were batting for us?) how can we stand by to watch our freedoms disappear? I don’t think that this ultra conservative politician will get far with his claims. Our freedoms are worth holding onto even if our clothing isn’t. Do you like your freedom at the beach? hugs from David Newton Neutral Bay, Sydney xoxoxoxxoxooxoxxooxxo... |

Love freedom at the beach! If they don't like what they see, then don't look. Being comfortable with ourselves isn't something to be frowned at.
