 Take it one day at a time. Take care of you so you can continue to be there. It looks like you are doing good so far. Know that your dad’s reaction is probably his fear as I am sure you have your fear. The surgery may go perfectly and she will be all healed soon and back to normal. The hospital may have a social service for counseling and contacts for patient care if you need it later. I imagine they have a chaplain that you can talk to if you feel it will help. The kids, if older, may be more help than you think and willing to help.

Thank you positively. That's all I've been trying to do is to take this one day, even one moment at a time. As for my dad, I know he's been trying to be stoically a man and hide his feelings, so when he does have them, it's vented out in other ways.
As for my kids...well, they are still...kids. Yes I know my daughter and son would want to help if they knew how, but they are afraid of seeing my mom in a vulnerable way like this, mortal. I know it's a part of life, but they are still kids. And I want to protect them. I don't know if that is right or not. But I know it's difficult for them too.
