Frozen Desire -- 1

I

It almost happened some ten years ago in the winter of ’97. I was single then. Since I had a job and was earning my money, I could indulge in some fantasies. One of these was to have kinky sexual encounters with like minded women. I didn’t want to approach a , though. That may have been easier.

Those days, the internet had still not emerged as a medium to make these connections, at least in India. We had a few internet cafes though in Delhi where I stayed at that time. I had shifted just as winter set in. But surfing the net was beyond the reach of many. Near my office in Defence Colony, they charged up to Rs.175/- per hour (about 4 USD) ‒ compare that to the rates today, and you’ll realize that high speed surfing is possible at 1/10th (or even less) that cost. That’s cyber penetration for you!

The alternative was to place ads in magazines that were meant for this purpose. There were two such magazines whose banner was friendship. In reality, those who advertised, and those who responded to the ads in these magazines, were seeking carnal pleasures of all kinds. They wanted to explore their wildest fantasies, their kinky side. Anyway, the two magazines I mentioned were both coming out of Bombay, that great sexual jungle. One was simply called ‘Bombayite’ and the other, ‘BMAds’ (in short for ‘Broadminded Ads’). Both had ads from men, women and couples from all over India but mostly from the metros. In this virtual era of Senior Sizzle, Fling, Orkut and hundreds of other such sites, both these magazines are out of business.

Almost anybody could advertise, for a price of course. There were different levels for placing ads ‒ starting from the simplest 5-6 lines in a column, you could have an entire page devoted to your libidinous ad if you were prepared to pay for it. Anyone could respond to these ads, by paying Rs.20/- per letter to be delivered through the magazine for the first time. That is how the guy who published the magazine made his money. The ads were all coded. Nobody was permitted to give addresses and . Photographs were allowed.

A reading of the ads showed that people like you and me had advertised. Single men and women, married men and women and couples (married or unmarried) ‒ all of them were looking out for fun. Morality was passé ‒ here, only the pleasure principle worked. One’s background was not relevant as long as you were out not to harm anybody. In this maze of lust and erotic longing, there were gays, lesbians, bisexuals and people of every conceivable sexual orientation. There were those who were looking to dominate and there were those who were willing to submit to pain and pleasure. There were those who wanted to extend their limit and experience the sexually bizarre. Even foreign travellers who regularly visited India had put up their ads in the two magazines. Sometimes, merely reading the ads was a titillating experience. Though many were not explicit in their descriptions, they were suggestive enough to excite my lustful imagination. How many times I must have masturbated, just imagining a kinky encounter!
