Mid-Year Report

Mid-Year Report
Wednesday, 4 July 2007

I know it’s past mid-year exactly, but, it’s been a long time since I wrote and am off today (on call though) with a sprained ankle and Ryan at work so I think this is an awesome time to write what will no doubt be a very long blog on where everything is at during this point in my life.

This no doubt will bore most, so, feel free to not read it all if you don’t care, I just thought I’d include it if for no other reason I have blogs going back to 1997 and sometimes like to read back on them and see what was happening in my life, and this is a good way to document it.

Work

Working for Prime rocks! I make decent money and have benefits to boot. They give me time off to go to school on the clock. They let me expand and develop myself however I see fit. Everyone is friendly and nice. And being on-call doesn’t mean having to wake up for some call every single night! Oh, it’s sweet. And Once the person in the senior position leaves my next step with the company is already decided for me.

School

I got an “A” automatically in a CIS class.

BA is going well ‒ damn, I love taking the class
and the professor rocks! If you go to CNM ever, take Tom Darling, you will NOT regret it! I don’t care what you have to do, take his class!!!

ART. Well, let’s put it this way, I have a 4.0. Even at CUA (which was private and very well known on the east coast) I got a 3.2 without ever studying. Now taking this class, I have a “C” and that’s with spending more time PER WEEK studying for this class than I do PER SEMESTER for every other class I’ve ever taken. So, guess it’s not my best subject. But in school, like in cert tests (and just about everything in life) there are just two grades: Pass and Do Over. So, as long as I pass, it will be fine.

I’ve also figured out my schedule for next semester ‒ do my usual start with six classes, find out which professors are cool or are not cool with me being a full-time employee and being on call 24/7/365 and dropping down to three or four classes once I weed the ones out that aren’t cool with it. If anyone’s at CNM and wants to take a class together, let me know, because I can always change things around too.

Career Improvement

I passed the MS 70-290 exam with only missing a perfect score by 13 points (out of 900 points, that’s pretty damn good!).

I now have two tests left to get my MCSA ‒ one which I will take in early August and then the last one sometime in October.

Prime is also paying for me to go to Security+ Boot Camp, so I should have that one on my resume also by the end of the year.

Basically for taking classes and working full-time, I seem to be doing pretty damn well keeping up with advancing my career. It’s a bitch sometimes, but I am making enough headway to be proud of myself.

Quietly Queer

This is a little dinner and a movie night every couple week thing we put together.

This past weekend was awesome because Ryan Carroll was in town and got to come.

Also I got to see Michael Bones again (and finally meet Andrew in person), unfortunately, I didn’t get to sit near them at dinner so didn’t get to speak to them much and wanted to make up for it at the movie, but it was so packed that I wasn’t able to sit near them, so Ryan and I will have to take them out like 2-on-2 one night to make up for it.

Also, Ryan’s sister Kelly and our neighbor that rocks Doug, were on a kinda quasi-date, and damn did they look cute together. Ryan had some issues, but he’s over it now.

There was drama after I passed out, which is still continuing (Ryan and I were robbed of cash, silver, gold, pills, credit cards, and more amounting to over $3k in retail and the bathroom was destroyed) and will probably continue for months as the police and our lawyers get involved.

Law Suits

New Day is still in a holding pattern, they refuse to budge, but keep blocking us with paper work hoping we’ll go away. At this point, it’s the principle, so we won’t be going away anytime
soon.

My car accident was moved to a new lawyer for reasons I can’t discuss, and he hasn’t had a chance to do anything with it yet, so that’s still on hold.

The eBay suit for the asshole that stole the PSP from us has a date set of August 28th.

Our suit against our old landlords is making head away and just got split into two suits, both of which should be settled by the end of the year.

Finances

Salaries are set now with weekly pay.

Investment schedule has been set on a 1-2-3-3-4-5 Plan. (Details are available if you want them).

We’re doing okay, will be where I want us to be as of next Friday provided there are no more unexpected bumps in the road and things will be okay.

Ryan and I started to invest about 10% into silver and gold (damn, does that stuff take up room quickly) but it’s beautiful pieces of art ‒ each one of them different, and each one beautiful ‒ I mean, some are even stunning!

The basic idea is next Friday we’ll be fine, end of the month we’ll be completely where we want to be, and then we have to let everything continue to grow.

Ryan

Things with Ryan and I are good (though, we’re still looking for a third who is a bottom, so let us know if you’re interested .

He’s fighting with his family again, and Kelly and I are doing everything we can to stay out of it and let it boil over…..though, his Mom is basically blaming me for something that I have nothing to do with and couldn’t have prevented even if I did have something to do with it.

He’s happy with his job though and about to start a new schedule.

He also enjoys going to class…..three years of working to get him to take classes, and he not only can tolerate it, but enjoys it! Who would have thought it.

Household

Everything in the household is good.

Anthony and Mateo are both out of town today ‒
which does make it kind of lonely.

No fighting or disagreements and it’s great to finally have a respectful and polite roommate who always pays his rent on time ‒ so Mateo ROCKS!

Anthony and I haven’t had any disagreements in a long while, it’s things have been very good for a while, which makes everything in life so much stressful ‒ though, I have to question whether it was Anthony and I stressing each other out, or him being on the phone stressing him out and me working at the hospital stressing me out and we just took it out on each other.

Computers and Stuff

GEEK WARNING FOR NON-GEEKS

We have the media server rebuilt and the other two servers working.

We’ve got all nine VMs up.

We are half way to getting our own e-mail and web hosting done.

DynDNS is working for the house and is prepped to extend the network to Ryan’s parents and my parents, and Anthony’s parents if he chooses to
do so.

We also have VPN working to the house which will be great with CNM’s Free WiFi network and my work laptop.

Now we just need to transfer our naming servers,
and things will be good. 

Porn, movies, music and everything are working great with the 360s as extenders, and now we just need to get two more 52+” TVs to complete the household network the way we plan.

We also now have WiFi-N throughout the house
(multiple access points) and all gigabit with 16 ports working very well through the house.

Wrap-Up

So, that basically catches everyone up on everything. Sorry for the four pages worth of nothingness basically, but thanks for sticking with me if you made it this far ‒ and I’ll try to post more often so that I don’t have to bore you with so much at one time anymore.
