Spying on the Boss... In my job at some of my I do Internal Audit. The role of an Internal Auditor is to check policies and procedures and the way they are followed. In the banking world this is particularly crucial as it prevents fraud and theft. I answer often to either the CEO or the Board. In some cases (today being one) the Board asks me to check into the practices of the CEO to ensure that everything is going the way it should. These days make me a bit nervous but I do see the importance of them. Fortunately at this particular place the CEO is above reproach. he even welcomes my checking because it shows the Board that he can and should be trusted. So its not so bad. There are other places where this is not so much the case...sigh. But as I said before it has to be done. When I write my report it goes directly to the Board and therefore I have some sway in what they hear. But I have to be cautious so as not to take a small thing and blow it up big and cause problems. Today there was none of that. Everything was exactly as it should be so the report was straightforward and positive. Whew...I dread the day, however, when I come across something that does not show the CEO in a good light...one of those days will be quite nasty I'm sure. Tell me...if you were/are the boss, how would you like someone checking up on you and the things you do? Would it bother you or would you be okay with it?
