Is Semen Good for You? A reader asked an interesting question on the blog [post 439631] about the composition of semen (the male ejaculate) and whether it might include enough protein (similar the creatine supplement powders and drinks) to help a woman who works out to build and tone muscle. Interesting idea, so I did a little research. The average male ejaculate consists mostly of protein, citric acid, fructose (a complex sugar), sodium, and chloride. There are smaller amounts of ammonia, ascorbic acid, acid phosphatase, calcium, carbon dioxide, cholesterol, prostaglandins, creatine, other minerals, and numerous other chemicals. So, even if jeanla jeanla is getting up to three "hits" of semen daily as she suggests, I couldn't find an answer to the question of whether the amount of protein is significant enough to boost her workout regime. Her question did make me wonder what else she might be getting if, indeed, she is having unprotected sex (she didn't specify intercourse or oral) with three guys a day. Oral sex offers lower risk than intercourse for sexually transmitted diseases but still poses a risk. In the search for an answer to jeanla's question about the composition of semen, I came across a study by Gordon G. Gallup, Ph.D., a psychologist at the State University of New York in Albany. Gallup found that women who routinely had intercourse without condoms became increasingly depressed as more time elapsed since their last sexual encounter. There was no such correlation for women whose partners regularly used condoms. Gallup's survey of 293 college women also found that those who did not use condoms were most likely to initiate sex and to seek out new partners as soon as a relationship ended. Semen also contains hormones, some of which are known to elevate mood, including testosterone, estrogen, prolactin, luteinizing hormone and prostaglandins, many of which can be absorbed through vaginal membranes. I know, from my own experience, that having sex provides an emotional boost. I think of it as the "global reset" button like doing a forced quit on my Mac when it's got a perpetual<b> pinwheel </font></b>swirling and won't stop whatever processing loop it's stuck in. I've always assumed the positive effect of sex was due to the release of hormones including dopamine, epinephrine and oxytocin (happy-making chemicals). These chemicals are released through touch and, even more, through orgasm. I know when I get uptight that sex will calm me and improve my mood. I enjoy unprotected sex with my guy as we are "fluid bonded," and are very careful about exposure to anyone else's bodily fluids. Now, I wonder how much is due to the impact of just having sex versus receiving a regular "hit" of his ejaculate. I want to add that, personally, I find male ejaculate stinky. I especially don't like how it makes my yoni smell. Ejaculate is alkaline (some have compared the smell to Clorox bleach) while female vaginal fluids are acidic. I find the combined smells totally yucky. Since I don't believe in douching (does anyone douche these days?), it's tricky to get rid of the smell. Since my guy agrees that he likes my yoni smell ejaculate free, recently, he has joined the ranks of all good Catholic boys in engaging in coitus interruptus, pulling out at the last moment and blowing his wad on my belly. Now I'm wondering if I'll start missing out on the happy effects of his ejaculate. So, what do you know about semen? Is it good for you? Do you like the taste or smell? Very interesting, especially those poll results. Jeez, doesn't everybody get more depressed as time passes from their last sexual encounter?  I am not super enamored of the smell or taste either, and I'm happy to see someone who dares to say it!! I have not had unprotected intercourse since my last long term relationship, which ended four years ago. It's a birth control issue for me in addition to an STD issue - I haven't hit menopause yet and I can't do any of the hormonal options because of a history of blood clots. Sorry to hear that the site is still screwing with you - hope you are able to make this new alter ego stick!

I believe that smell you refer to is a biological indicator to other men if their woman has been unfaithful. It's also believed that's why women live longer. It's thought to be part of our biological programing. As the man ages he can no longer hunt, work etc, making him another mouth to feed unless he has a position of importance. (Want your man to live longer, make him feel needed and important.) It's thought the woman lives longer as she would assist around the family unit, with the children as mom did things around the village, as well as ensure that the woman was faithful. In a time of limited resources it is important that whatever status, power, wealth, land go to his offspring. To the mother, it's mothers babies fathers maybe's... It's always her child... So nature has found a way to let a man know if his wife has been unfaithful, the smell of semen in a vagina will change from man to man. You know how your woman smells and feels. In my opinion, its semen that makes a vagina have a different smell, but a removable shower head and direct water jetting in the shower seems quite effective. Also, if you're in a bath, a woman can suck water in and out of her pussy to remove the semen. NO OTHER sex or race is subject to the same scrutiny based on race. What has happened is there is now an institutionalized racism against the white male. Look at the laws that protect people from hate crimes. If you are white, you CAN NOT be a victim of a hate crime, according to US LAW. I contributed in your section about semen. I believe what I wrote to be the root of many things in our culture and hence the rise of BD/SM play. It allows people to reinforce certain beliefs or to counter that belief by taking or giving power. As Sigmund Freud said :"Everything in life is about sex except sex. Sex is about power."
