Whattayaknow! I Am Raising Him Right

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies with in us.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I while back I wrote about the Boy Wonder's experience with a bully. I had to go to the school and complain about this last year and the Boy Wonder had already complained about him this year. Well it all boiled over Tuesday. The seventh grade basketball team and soccer team share the same locker room at the school athletic center. After practice Tuesday, they were all in there together and the youngster that had been giving the Boy Wonder so much difficulty decided to launch his soccer cleats over the lockers separating them and one hit the Boy Wonder in the head.

TBW took said cleat, and threw it back to him. Not hard, afterall, the Boy Wonder's fastball is around 60mph now and he really could have done some damage with it had he wanted to. But he said the hooligan didn't catch it and it hit him in the chest. The little shit then rushed the Boy Wonder and it was on. Another , who is larger than both of them, tried to stop it but had no luck and soon decided to get himself out of the melee.

After it was all said and done, TBW had a scratch and a little bruising around his eye and because of his braces his lips were bleeding a little but from what I have heard the other 's face was swollen on one whole side and he is the one that decided he had enough of the fracas and escaped. Of course I heard a little later that he ran right out and got in his mother's vehicle bawling and telling her how TBW had hit him with a shoe and attacked him. The cowardly little shit.

TBW finished getting dressed and went back over to the school and since he couldn't find anyone else, ended up telling the school counselor everything that happened.

The next day, they interviewed the witnesses and there was some confusion as to who threw the first punch. So they are both getting the same punishment. One day in-school suspension and put on the highest level of probation. It also means he won't be allowed to play in the basketball game that night. I was actually expecting worse and was prepared to have to go to the school and fight with the powers that be to keep TBW in school since he was provoked and there was no adult supervision in the athletic center at that time.

I did speak to the principal and he expressed to me that he was actually glad TBW stood up for himself but he was still going to have to follow the rules and punish him. But, he also told me how he would rather have 100 of TBW than one of the other . He told me not to worry about the probation as TBW was never a trouble maker anyway. But, he kind of hinted that TBW had done him a favor since now the other could be kicked out on the very next infraction. He told me he was pretty sure the other wouldn't be at the school much longer.

While the two of them were in the office with the principal the other was complaining how his head, neck and chest hurt to which TBW replied that the only thing that hurt on him was his hand, from beating on the 's head and face, which now had a large bruise on it.

I asked TBW if I needed to go in with him when I dropped him off at school Wednesday morning and he said, "Nope." He spent most of yesterday being treated like a hero by his schoolmates. Several told him "thank you" while others told him how much they had been wanting to hit the . The ones in the locker room when it happened were even telling him how he was getting hosed because he was getting punished just as much as the spoiled little hooligan. He was proud of himself for standing up to the . He had been wanting to all this time and you could just see the pride swell inside of him. I'm sure if I had asked him if pounding the was worth getting suspended for he would have said yes. I did ask him if he felt better about himself now that it had finally happened and he said he did. Good, because I am very proud of him too.

See you next time, same Batchannel.

That is very cool. I don't like the idea of kids fighting, but I like the ideas of bullies even less, and a kid should never have to put up that kind of stuff. I'm so glad he stood up for himself.

You did good teaching him, NSDK.

(I s'pose that means you're going to want gelato now... )

Schools has rules but I know with my own child I don't want him to be bullied and if he needs to stand up and he gets a day or so then I am cool with it. If he doesn't kids will be cruel and they learn quickly who will take shit and who won't. Good for him.

Yeah, luckily he got off light. I expeced three or five days out of school suspension. I was all set to go up there and fight them on it but I thought one day in-school wasn't so bad. Both he and I thought it was worth it.

Under normal circumstance I wouldn't be pleased about a fight at school (I tell my kids if they are going to get into a fight then they NEED to do it off school property and off school time) BUT in this particular instance.... YEAAAAAAAAAAA For the Boy Wonder!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell him I said he done good.

To me it seems even the administration is even happy he did it. How often do you hear that?
