Birthday Experience

So it has been a week since I became even older. Or I could look at it as becoming better. All I can say is I was terrifically surprised. As some of you may know Puck bought a saxophone for me (or so he said) for valentines. He has been practicing and working upon the old sax and getting it refurbished. Replacing worn out pads and oiling them to help with the leaking as well as on a search for the fix with the neck piece.

Anyway, I digress. A few days before my birthday he retrieved my flute and brought it to me. He put it together and then placed it in my hands. I shall follow up with that experience for me in another blog post but I shall tell you it had me looking for a Debussy piece for a flute solo (Syrinx) that 30 years ago my band instructor placed it in front of me. I kept hearing that piece in my head. So I had to look it up on line. I found it and played the clip for Puck. Then the day before my birthday I came home from work hearing him playing a piece on the saxophone. It was something he found and thought it was reminiscent of Syrinx so he found a midi file and then transposed it to sheet music so he could try and learn it. I thought it was very thoughtful of him. That evening he kept asking me what I wanted for my birthday. Well, The saxophone was suppose to be valentines and birthday combo present. So I thought a bit and said I would like a replacement umbrella for our patio table since we lost the other one in storms a year ago and then I also made a request that I thought was reasonable. I told him it would be nice if every once and awhile he would just bring home a bouquet of flowers from the grocery store. Or even a single flower would be nice.

The next morning I got up and went to work. I tried calling Puck during the day because I thought perhaps we could go out to a movie when I got home from work, but I was unable to reach him at home. Before starting home I did my usual thing of calling him to let him know I was heading that way. He said he was taking me to dinner so we met up at a restaurant for dinner. when he arrived he looked exhausted and I asked him about it. He said he spent the day hauling off the tree limbs from our back yard to the free dump. We had a wonderful dinner but I could tell he was tired so we headed out. I asked him if he had picked up cokes and he said he had forgotten but he would pick them up on the way home. I gave him a kiss and we got in our separate cars and headed home.

When I drove up to the house I found this fabulous surprise in our front yard. Puck took my suggestion of flowers and ran with it. He spent the entire day planting over a hundred flowers in our front yard. While I was walking around in wonder just looking at them all, a neighbor came out and said it looked like I had been busy. I told him nope, it was not my doing. Apparently my husband did this as a surprise for my birthday. They wished me a Happy birthday and said he did a fabulous job. He was still praising the design and lay out of it when Puck arrived home with the cokes. I gave him a wonderful kiss there in the front yard for everyone to see and just was giddy with the look of the front yard.

After wandering through my garden surprise we came inside and he looked for movies on TV for us to watch. We were interrupted a couple of times by friends calling and that is the story of my birthday. Although another blog I shall endeavor to write came up in conversation about renaissance men it came up about Richard Gere. but that is for later discussion. Currently my husband is continuing to surprise and delight me every day. I shall have to post several comments to this blog to show you pictures of the yard. Let us just say I had a wonderful birthday experience and his name was not dirt with my co-workers since he did such a fabulous job with the garden surprise.
