Reminiscing - The Kiss

Strephon kissed me in the Spring,
and Robin in the Fall.
But Colin only looked at me
and never kissed at all.

Strephon's kiss was lost in jest,
and Robin's lost in play.
But the kiss in Colin's eye
haunts me night and day.
- by Sara Teasdale

(one of the poems I loved enough to memorize in high school, and still remember)

When I was 13/14 years old I volunteered as a junior counselor at a summer day camp. 11 years was the oldest for the "attendees". One day the counselors called out: "Anybody wanting to go swimming, line up against the fence" so that's what I did. Leaning against the fence, minding my own business... when up he walked. Dark brown hair, deep brown eyes, skin a few shades darker than mine (of course I was probably as blindingly white then as I am now). 11 years old, but so attractive. He walked straight up to me, determined, leaned his forehead against mine, gazed deeply into my eyes... "Are you going swimming?"

I think that was my earliest flash of lust lol. Racing heart, difficulty remembering how to breathe, excited, nervous. He never kissed me. But it was such a very intimate moment. A few months later my mom and I were out walking and his family drove by in a car. He leaned out the window and started shouting his love for me. Of course it made me all kinds of happy inside. Though I had to talk my way out of being in trouble, and "he's too young for you anyways!" No, it never went further than those 2 brief moments... but the memory lingers

If I were even half wild... I could have gotten in so much trouble when I was a teenager lol.

I have a few "caught in somebody's gaze" memories. Yep... they all stick with you.

Hope you had a chance to pursue after the gaze Or maybe it's just the magic of the gaze that matters.
